Here’s an honest user review of WhyPark as a way to make extra dollars from your unused domain names …

Domain name parking is where a company offers you some form of revenue-sharing for pointing your domain name to a page in their servers that displays sponsored adverts. When people click on the ads, you get a percentage of the revenue earned from the click.

There are many companies that offer domain name parking. Good programs, such as Sedo.com offer excellent domain name management functions, attractive web page templates and great reporting functions, as well as other services, such as domain name brokering. You really have to shop around, however, because some programs will actually charge you a monthly fee for the privilege of giving them a nice cut of your profits. I recommend you stay away from any services where you have to pay to park your domain.

After searching for a place to park my 200 domain names, I came across WhyPark. This company has a unique approach to domain name parking. The service provides you with content and a selection of web page templates (not just a page full of ads), and you then insert your own advertising code (e.g. AdSense) and keep 100% of the profits. One of the immediate benefits of this system, is that if you create a site with 100 pages of content, that’s 100 pages of exposure for your ads, not just one or a few pages, like most other companies offer.

The system also allows you to create your own custom pages and offers you a way to promote products and affiliate programs related to the theme of your domain name. Best of all, these links are shown “above the fold” (i.e. the part of the page that visitors first see when they land on your site).

There are, however, a couple of downsides to this excellent service, which I’d like to discuss next …
