Anyone who has ever eaten in a restaurant will know that sometimes the portions are so huge that we either have to waste them or take them home. By advertising on these carriers, and by putting on their policy of using recycled waste, the general public will tend to want to use their goods and packaging in the long run. After all, the movement towards a greener earth is well under way and it is no longer the battle cry of just a few concerned individuals.
Custom made carriers are also a great idea since they usually fit the purpose that they are generally made for. By ordering them in different sizes, the supermarket can give the customer just the right size to cut down on cost. Then, they offer an incentive scheme to give the customer discounts every time that they reuse the carrier that they were given on an earlier visit. Good for the consumer and good for the earth as well as the shop.
Of course, it is well known that manufacturers use far too much packaging when wrapping their goods for display anyway. Very often there will be an inner tray, an outer tray and then the box and perhaps some outer packaging to seal it in. All of this excess packaging for, perhaps, a tiny item which sits in the corner of the package. Nowadays though, the manufacturers are bowing to public pressure and holding back on the packaging.
Again, by showing the consumer that they are up to the minute with consumer demands, they also get a good name that customers spread far and wide. This is a great marketing tool that many have taken up, and not a minute too soon according to those who have the interests of the earth at heart.
