Promoting Your Website – 5 Things You Should Consider
Posted in Internet Marketing Strategies
If you have a website, then promoting your website is actually extremely critical, actually if you don’t know what you are doing very well then you can cause damage to your site. Just because you want to spread the word about your masterpiece of a website, that does not mean that you should immediately start doing everything under the sun to get your website promoted. Learn about 5 of the biggest mistakes which people make when promoting their site…
Spam- don’t do it! - If you just start sending out unsolicited emails to people, this is not acceptable not for any reason, and you can actually be reported and “sand-boxed” for this. It will also cause you to be blacklisted or barred from large ISP’s, which will utterly cripple any and all of your traffic. People hate spam as much as you do, and in the end it’s a bad business tactic which can ruin your reputation.
Submission - a lot of people shell out money for big submission services, such as the promotions offering to submit your site to 100+ search engines for less than $20, and that may sound like a good deal, but it actually is a bad idea. The problem is however that there aren’t 100 good search engines out there in the first place, using one of these automated systems can also cause your site a lot of harm. Search engines can easily identify users who have used submission services. If you really don’t have time then there are some legitimate submission companies out there, just shop around and make sure you get them to tell you what they have done.
Search engine submission- a lot of people may tend to waste their time on low key search engines, but you want to submit your website to major search engines, and directories. In reality there are only less than 30 which are even worth submitting to, you can also consider searching for specialist directories and search engines which are related to your site. If your website is talking about makeup then you should find specialist directories which relate to cosmetics.
Submitting to Yahoo - Yahoo is a very important directory, and it’s also one of the hardest to get into, humans read all of the submissions at Yahoo which means that you have to be very careful what you do. You should try to convince them that your website is in fact a useful resource, so that they feel inclined to allow you to pass through without issue or concern, and the best way to do this, is to not rush through your yahoo submission to begin with.
Open for business - There’s no point submitting your website to search engines if it’s not yet open. Make sure that you have tested your site thoroughly, and that every single section is complete, including spell checked, before you begin submitting. Few internet users will bother revisiting a website which has an under construction message anywhere on it.
