The survey arena has been likened to “swimming in shark infested waters” and to a certain extent that’s true but the reality is, a little due diligence and sensible behavior on your part can help you in avoiding survey scams.
The word scam is used a lot today and has escalated since the internet was discovered as a means of making money. It’s not just a way of earning income for legitimate purposes but there are scams out there which prey on everyday internet users particularly new people and the elderly.
So how can you avoid becoming a victim of a paid survey scam? In this article, we’ll give you some commonsense tips on spotting scams and the truth is, if it’s too good to be true then it usually is.
Spotting Paid Survey Scams
1. Forums are an excellent avenue for reviews and probably the first place you want to visit when you have some doubts or questions about a particular survey. Forums dedicated to survey takers and work at home enthusiasts are available for you to join and participate in. Just do a search for survey forums online and you’ll be presented with any number of results.
2. Recommendations are another good way to avoid scams. One of the best ways to commence is to only use surveys sites that people you know have used successfully. It’s important to check if these people actually got paid. Completing surveys is one thing but getting paid for taking surveys is another. Always check if people were actually compensated because if they weren’t, what’s the point of doing a survey.
3. Another thing to watch out for is the quality of a survey site. Most survey scams are made in a hurry and are designed for short term use. If the site does not feel right then trust your first instinct and if it tells you there is something wrong with that site then give it a miss.
4. Testimonials should be taken with a “grain of salt.”" Do not let testimonials fool you – anyone can make up a couple of nice reviews. Unfortunately, you have no idea if the person who wrote the testimonial has ever used the site and in most cases, the very same person trying to rip you off has written it.
5. Always check for contact information. Not just an email but a phone number which you need to call and check if it’s a working number and if someone actually answers the phone.
6. Never part with money when taking a survey. Many will try and sell a list to you but the same information is available for free. Refer back to the forums. Remember, this is all about avoiding survey scams and you want to be in “the driver’s seat.”
